SUP Overview
An inflatable touring SUP designed for speed, glide, and straight-line tracking, the 2019 ISLE Discovery is a board that’s more performance-oriented than ISLE’s other SUPs. Measuring 12’6” x 31” x 6” and weighing in at just over 20 pounds, the Discovery features a long, sleek outline that helps it cut through wind and chop.
Touring paddle boards have continued to increase in popularity as many are moving beyond all-around boards in search of something with higher-performance. These paddle boards are a lot of fun for cruising large bodies of water, long-distance paddles, overnight SUP expeditions, and more (if you’re not quite ready to jump up to a full-blown touring board, we’d recommend checking out ISLE’s Explorer 11′ and Explorer 12′ models).
This season, we’re reviewed quite a few new inflatable touring SUPs including the BLACKFIN Model V, THURSO SURF Expedition, and NIXY Manhattan. Touring boards are a lot of fun on the water and despite being designed with performance in mind, still provide a surprising amount of stability.
The ISLE Discovery is a feature-rich inflatable SUP that essentially has everything you’d want on a touring model. The top deck of the board is covered by a brushed EVA foam traction pad that is designed for maximum comfort. The front portion of the pad features additional grooves for improved grip.
Positioned at the middle of the board is a carrying handle which is been completely redesigned this season. There are also two nylon webbed grab handles located directly in front of the traction pad which are helpful for balance and also handling the Discovery in and around the water.
ISLE included two bungee storage areas on the Discovery for increased cargo capacity. Positioned at the nose is a large 6-point bungee storage area and there’s a second 4-point cargo space at the board’s tail.
The Discovery also features nose and tail grab handles which are useful whenever you’re pulling the board along the beach or in and out of the water.

Also located at the tail is a final D-ring for attaching the included coiled SUP leash and a Halkey-Roberts inflation valve. Because ISLE uses this extremely popular valve type, the Discovery is fully compatible with the majority of this year’s best electric paddle board pumps.
On the bottom of the board is a triple fin setup with the 2+1 configuration that ISLE typically opts for. The Discovery has a large removable center fin with a universal fin box for added versatility and there are two smaller fixed side fins.
The ISLE Discovery features the company’s Airtech Fusion Lite construction which results in a lighter weight board. The fusion construction process is more efficient than other types of iSUP construction and it reduces material, waste, and hand-gluing errors which you often see on inflatable paddle boards.
Included with the Discovery is a nice package of SUP accessories which provides you with everything you need to start paddling. In the box you’ll find:

The Discovery offers a decent amount of speed and is fun for cruising up and down the coast. It tracks straight and I like all of the handles and bungee storage areas. A nice full-featured touring SUP if you are looking for something a bit longer than the usual all-around board.
