Retrospec Siesta Hammocks and Docks – Construction

The Siesta Docks and Hammocks use drop-stitch construction for rigidity and durability.
Both the Siesta Hammocks and Siesta Docks use Retrospec’s AerGlide-Lite construction for the inflatable sections of each. This is the lightweight, single-layer PVC construction used in the Retrospec Weekender 10’6 iSUP with one, very important, twist.
The same single layer of PVC is mechanically bonded to the interior drop stitch core for a tough and rigid surface. The core has thousands of threads stitched through from top to bottom to keep the platforms flat and rigid when inflated. The big difference, though, is that these platforms are made 8” thick rather than 6” thick.
While that may not seem to be that different, this extra thickness means that the Siesta platforms are going to be more rigid at just 10 PSI inflation pressure. For a large platform with multiple people, that’s really important.
The top and bottom of the platforms are glued together with an interior rail band, and then a second outer rail band is glued over top of that to help protect the edges of the platform.

The Siesta Hammocks have an inner mesh section similar to a trampoline.
The docks are a “solid” construction while the hammocks are more of a “donut” shape with just the outer portion made with the AerGlide-Lite drop stitch construction. The inner portion of the donut is covered on the bottom with a nylon mesh fabric similar to a trampoline (though not tensioned like one).
This mesh section is connected to the Hammock with a bungee cord running through dozens of loops on the underside of the outer ring. This lets the mesh panel “sag” into the water when sitting on it.

Retrospec Siesta Hammocks and Docks – Features, Accessories and Comfort

The Siesta Dock keeps you high and dry, and is compatible with Retrospec’s AerComfort seats.
The Siesta Docks and Siesta Hammocks differ in intended use, but share many of the same features. All of the Siesta Docks and Hammocks have multiple grab handles to carry the platform (and help you get on from the water). All have multiple D-rings to secure equipment. All have multiple ¼” threaded mounts for smaller accessories. And all have an underside D-ring for anchoring your platform.

The custom EVA deck pad has fun beach-themed texturing.

Multiple D-rings and accessory mounting points make it easy to bring everything you need on the water.

The complete kit includes a pump, repair kit and carrying bag to store it all.
There are a few differences, though. The docks have fabric tabs on the deck that are compatible with up to four of Retrospec’s AerComfort inflatable seats (sold separately). But, that’s because the Siesta Hammocks have comfortable seating already built in!
The docks feature full-coverage deck pads, while the Hammocks only have two sections of EVA foam deck pad. And of course, the Hammocks have the mesh inner layer for relaxing in the water. Lastly, the 10’x10’ Siesta Hammock also has a cargo bungee cord in one corner for holding dry bags and other items.
However, all of Retrospec’s Siesta Docks and Hammocks are compatible with one another. You can link any of the docks and hammocks with Retrospec’s Tether Connection straps (sold separately) to create a massive flotilla of fun!

The Retrospec Siesta Docks and Hammocks are all compatible with one another.
Each Retrospec Siesta platform also comes with an accessory kit that includes a hand pump, compression strap, repair kit, and a carrying bag. Most other brands’ inflatable docks and hammocks don’t have any sort of bag, and some don’t even come with a pump!
Here’s a breakdown on the built in features for each model:
7’x7’ Siesta Dock | 10’x10’ Siesta Dock | 8’round Siesta Hammock | 10’x10’ Siesta Hammock | |
Deck Pad | Full Coverage | Full Coverage | 2 Sections | 2 Section |

Retrospec Siesta Hammocks and Docks – Fun on the Water
The Siesta Platforms offer a wide range of compatibility and features to let you relax and enjoy the water however you choose.

The Siesta Docks keep you out of the water and have a larger capacity, while the Siesta Hammocks are great for relaxing in the water.
Hammock or Dock? That’s a tough question. It’s really going to come down to how you want to use the platform.
The Siesta Docks have more capacity for people, coolers, and a larger area to stretch out for yoga (or a siesta), or move around while fishing, and keep you dry. Well, drier. You gotta account for your friends pushing you in!
But the Siesta Hammocks are lighter, let you cool down fully in the water, and still have plenty of capacity for up to 6 people. After a hot day at the beach, nothing beats being able to relax with your body floating in the water and head resting gently on the Hammock’s ring.

I think the Siesta Hammock XL might be the best of both worlds. If I could have only one, this would be it!
No matter which you choose, you’re going to have a fun time on the water.

Retrospec Siesta Hammocks and Docks – Final Thoughts

Relax or Play… nah, Relax AND Play!
When looking at the Siesta platforms, it can be hard to choose which one is best for you – so just get them all! I’m kidding, but am I? Each one has its own merits and uses. The Siesta Docks offer the most capacity, while the Siesta Hammocks, especially the 10’ Hammock XL give you a bit more versatility. Maybe it is best to get one of each – after all, they are designed to work together to maximize your fun on the water!
