One of the best inflatable fishing SUPs, the Hala Fame is an extremely stable inflatable SUP that is also ideal for whitewater, fitness, and all-around fun. As you’d expect, this board is loaded with gear tie-down points giving you plenty of room for onboard storage.
The Hala Fame measures 11’3” x 36” x 6”. Being both long and wide, it’s also one of the heavier iSUPs from Hala with a weight of 36 pounds. If you’re planning to go on multi-day expeditions, then the 350-pound capacity of the Fame should be more than enough to handle all of the camping and fishing gear that you want to bring along. The Fame certainly isn’t built for speed, but if you’re looking for a stable, confidence-inspiring board that can handle a range of activities and conditions, this is an iSUP to consider.
As with all of the Hala Gear SUPs, the Fame was built to last. It features the company’s signature Core Construction technology – a double layer of PVC over a durable drop-stitch core, resulting in a board that is very rigid and built to last. A single central PVC stringer runs along the board, enhancing overall stiffness without adding a lot of additional weight. Even if you do slam this inflatable SUP into a boulder or scrape it along sharp rocks, the Fame is designed to hold up under extreme abuse.
A tip-to-tail River Rocker gives the Fame some play when traversing over waves, making it much easier to control and maneuver. The square tail is also effective in enhancing stability during turns.
The deck of the Hala Fame is outfitted with a comfy 4-millimeter EVA foam deck pad that’s gentle enough for some on-the-water SUP fitness workouts. The diamond groove pattern is known for its outstanding grip and we’re glad to see that the 1.5-inch stomp pad and raised foot index are still included on the Fame — they help when it comes to controlling the board.
|Max Capacity||350 pounds|
The SUP’s center carrying handle lays flat when not in use via a cut-out slot on the deck pad and it comes with a removable neoprene grip cover for extra comfort. At the rear and nose of the Fame are two more handles for carrying the Fame in and out of the water. In whitewater, you can use the grab handles along the rails for some extra stability and to help you climb back on if you go for a swim.
As seen on most inflatable paddle boards, the Fame has a dedicated cargo storage space at the nose with four rigging points and a bungee cord. If you need more storage, then you can make use of the other eight tie-down points running along the length of the board. These attachment points can also be used to set up an optional kayak seat.
A reinforced D-ring at the tail serves as a leash attachment point and another D-ring at the bottom of the nose is perfect if you need to tow or tether the board.
A unique feature of the Hala Fame is the cut-out sections on either side of the deck pad which can be used to mount Railblaza StarPort mounts. With these in place, you can attach a wide range of paddle board accessories such as an adapter for a standard camera mount, a G-Hold for a paddle, or a fishing rod holder.
The Fame’s 4.5-inch center fin can retract inside the Stomp Box if it comes into contact with rocks or branches, so there’s no need to worry about it getting damaged. The four 2.5-inch fixed fins provide plenty of clearance for paddling in shallow water.
The Hala Fame comes with the following set of standard accessories:
- Wheeled backpack
- Hand pump
- iSUP repair kit
Hala has built a reputation for making top-shelf inflatable SUPs and as a testament to this, they offer an industry-best 3-year warranty against manufacturer defects. Should you run into any problems with your iSUP because of workmanship issues, they’ll gladly repair or replace it at no cost.
