Red Paddle Co has announced several new Shapes and Sizes for their 2024 iSUP lineup, and we are stoked! They aren’t quite available yet, but keep an eye out for these new boards soon.
10’2” Ride MSL
Same great shape, new (smaller) size. The new 10’2” Ride has the same, classic, outline and construction as the 10’6” and 10’8” Ride SUPs that’s great for all-around paddling and even some paddle surfing at 4.7” thick. The new 10’2” Ride is 29” wide, though, so it’s not going to be for everyone. Smaller paddlers and dedicated SUP surfers will certainly get a hoot from this new board.
12’6” and 14’0” Sport+ MSL
These are two new(ish) boards for Red. There has previously been a 12’6” Sport, but not a 14’ version.
- The 12’6” Sport+ is 30” wide and now 4.7” thick
- The 14’ Sport+ is 28” wide and 5.9” thick
Both models feature Red’s fiberglass Rocker Stiffening System (RSS) Battens that slide into the board’s rails during inflation and a Quick-Release Square Tail for a cleaner, more efficient water release at the tail of the board.
The new 12’6” and 14’ Sport+ MSL boards are designed for touring, fitness and expedition paddling.
12’6” and 14’0” Elite MSL
Here Red Paddle Co has given us a refresh on their Elite series racing iSUPs. The new 2024 Elite MSL will still be available in two sizes, but they’ll be a little different than before.
- 12’6” Elite MSL – 12’6” x 25” x 5.9”
- 14’ Elite MSL – 14’0” x 26” x 5.9”
Previously these boards were 28” and 27” wide respectively. Here is our in-depth review of the previous Red Paddle Co 12’6” Elite MSL.
These new racing SUPs have lost some width and some weight. They still feature the RSS battens on the rails of the board, but the new 12’6” will no longer have the Front Flex Control (FCC) rod feature. The 14’ Elite will continue to come with this carbon fiber flex control rod.
In addition to the visual and size changes, both boards also feature Red Paddle Co’s new MSL800 drop stitch construction…
New MSL800 Drop Stitch Construction
Both the new Sport+ and new Elite iSUPs also have Red’s new MSL800 drop stitch construction. The MSL800 material is lighter and stiffer than Red’s original MSL drop stitching. Based on Red’s description this new material features both a lightweight yarn and “Double Drop Stitch” effect.
Now we haven’t been able to get our hands on this new construction for testing (yet), but from what we can tell it does look at least a little bit like what we’ve been seeing from a few other brands with a 2×1 dimple pattern on the PVC shell. You can see the new pattern on the image above (especially in the shadow of the fin).
Knowing Red, I’m willing to bet it is a slightly different material than what others are using, but just as likely to be very, very similar.
9’6” Wild MSL
Last but not least, Red has brought back the 9’6” Wild MSL whitewater iSUP. Red did have this board in their lineup for a while, then removed it, leaving just the 11’ Wild MSL as a river-specific board.
For 2024, they’ve brought the nimble river runner back. At 9’6” x 34” x 5.9”, this board will be a sporty option to release your wild side on the river.
Final Thoughts
Well, now that’s quite a big drop from Red! Not only do we have some new shapes, new sizes, and design refreshes coming for next year, but a whole new interior construction as well. There’s a lot to be excited about for Red Paddle Co in 2024, and I can’t wait to get on these new boards. Unfortunately it looks like we will have to wait a little while before Red begins shipping these new iSUPs. Which board are you most looking forward to? Let us know in the comments below!
