Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump Review | 2024

Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump Review
The Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump is a totally self-contained unit – including the battery.

Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump: Overview

The Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump offers everything you need to inflate your board in a small package. With the battery built directly into the pump there’s no need to worry about plugging in to a car or separate device to get your board inflated. However, the Sea Gods pump is limited to a maximum of 16 PSI. This is plenty for most riders, but not enough to get the maximum stiffness from many boards that can be inflated to 20 PSI – including Sea Gods’ own iSUPs.

Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump Review
The Sea Gods electric pump comes with a storage bag, accessory attachments, and spare o-rings.

The Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump definitely takes the award for the most portable iSUP pump. The small form factor and built-in 6000 mAh battery make it easy to take – and use – anywhere. It also includes a variety of adapters to inflate items other than iSUPs (I’ve used it with my packrafts as well).

The pump itself also has a built-in flashlight and USB ports for charging your phone, GoPro, or other devices all from the internal battery.

The top section opens up as storage for the 12v power cord if you do want to plug the pump in to use it. The battery will also charge off of the 12v power cord as well, so it can pull double-duty if needed. The one, very minor, issue I’ve run into with this storage location is that the cable can sometimes “lock” the handle down if you place the cable into the storage area over the handle. In a future version it would be great to see the power cord attached to the device in this storage area, rather than on the bottom/outside to keep it even cleaner when not in use.

The top compartment opens to reveal cord storage, but the cord attaches to the outside of the pump.

Using the Sea Gods pump is pretty straight forward. The only thing that can trip-up new users is needing to hold the power button down to turn the device on or off, but only pressing it and releasing to activate/deactivate the pump itself.

Once the pump is on, you can adjust the pressure settings and units using the clearly-marked buttons, and activate the flashlight with its own dedicated button. The USB ports will operate on their own rather than requiring you to manually turn them on or off. The charging port and USB ports are covered with rotating covers that easily slide out of the way when in use and close automatically.

Inflation Speed and Sound

The trade off for this extra portability is inflation speed. We test inflation speeds using the same test board (11’ x 32” x 6”) for each pump. It did take an average of just under 14 minutes to inflate the test board to 15 PSI while plugged into a constant 12v power source (the fastest pump we tested took just over 10 minutes).

When we used the internal battery, the inflation times slowed down a little bit, but not as much as when other pumps were powered from batteries rather than a constant 12v power source. When using the internal battery, the Sea Gods pump took an average of 14:45 to inflate the same test board – less than a minute difference between 12v and battery power.

Electric pumps use two different stages to inflate a SUP. The first stage is quieter, pushes more air per second, but is limited to a lower pressure. The second stage is louder, moves less air per second, but operates at higher pressures. The second stage volume of the Sea Gods battery electric pump measured right in the middle of our test range at 81 dB.

Every 1 dB increase equates to a roughly 7% increase in perceived volume. As a reference, when letting air out of the board, we measured 89 dB – or about 30% more volume than the Sea Gods pump. 60 dB is roughly the volume of normal conversation and 90 dB is typically considered the threshold for harmful volume.

Battery

One of the best perks of the Sea Gods pump is its built-in battery. Not only is the battery included in the pump, but it has a larger capacity than most stand-alone batteries for electric SUP pumps.

The Sea Gods pump has a 6000 mAh battery that is charged using an AC power adapter you plug into a standard outlet. The pump also indicates that it is charging when plugged into a 12v power source as well. This is a bit of a double-edged sword, though. It’s great that the pump will charge itself when plugged into your car, but it also runs the risk of depleting your car battery if left plugged in with the car turned off. When plugged into a household outlet, the Sea Gods pump will fully charge its battery in about 6 hours. Charging progress is shown as a percentage on the pump’s display.

When using the internal battery to power the pump, the Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump has enough capacity to reliably inflate 3 iSUPs to 15psi. We tested this with our “medium” sized test board that is 11’ x 32” x 6”. If you have a smaller or larger iSUP, the number of reliable inflations you can get on a single charge will be different.

After 3 inflations there was still about 11% battery remaining. With all Lithium batteries, it’s important to not fully deplete the battery in order to get the best lifespan and capacity from the power cells.

Warranty and Customer Support

Sea Gods warranties their electric pump for one year from the date of purchase. If you have any questions about the Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump or need to file a warranty claim, you can reach Sea Gods by their online chat, website form, phone, email, or social media.

Overall Impressions/Review Summary

The Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump is the most portable pump we’ve tested. It’s not the fastest inflator on the market, but the built-in battery keeps the pump going plenty long to inflate your board (and your buddy’s). When you look at the cost of electric pumps and batteries, the Sea Gods pump is also one of the best values on the market. I would love to see a version 2.0 of the Sea Gods pump that is capable of higher pressures.

Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump FAQ

How fast is the Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump?

The Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump took about 14 minutes on average to inflate our medium-sized test board (11’ x 32” x 6”). The average speed remained the same whether it was plugged in or using its internal battery.

How long does the Sea God’s Battery Electric Pump work using its battery?

We were able to inflate our medium-sized test board (11’ x 32” x 6”) to 15psi three times using only the built-in battery. This left about 10% capacity in the battery.

Is the Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump loud?

The Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump was neither particularly louder nor particularly quieter than the other pumps we tested. All of our pumps fell within a 2 dB range, or a difference of about 14% volume from the loudest to the quietest pumps.

Can I use the Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump with other boards or inflatable items?

Yes. The Sea Gods Battery Electric Pump includes a hose attachment for standard Halkey-Roberts valves found on most iSUPs. It also includes several other adapters for other inflatable items.
