THURSO SURF Prodigy Review: SUP Overview

THURSO SURF 7'6

The THURSO 7’6″ Prodigy youth paddle board has a striking design that really stands out from the pack. The top deck features a beautiful woodgrain-look that’s one of THURSO’s signature design elements, and the bottom and rails are done in a beautiful blue color. The board’s rails also have attractive gray accents at the nose and tail which match up nicely with the deck’s 2-piece traction pad.

Up top, the board features a lay-flat carrying handle located at the middle of the board. The Prodigy’s gray traction pad is divided into 2 pieces, and the back third features white accents. The traction pad has a comfortable ribbed pattern that provides good grip and is comfortable on the feet.

The nose of the board features four stainless steel D-rings and a bungee storage area that’s perfect for securing a dry bag, snorkeling gear, or a pair of Crocs. There’s also a convenient grab handle which makes it super easy to pull the board in and out of the water.

On the flip side is a triple fin setup with three small removable fins. THURSO used a toolless fin system that is super easy to use — just line up the fin, drop it into the fin box’s channel, push it down completely to seat it, and then press down the locking tab.

Final Thoughts

THURSO SURF Inflatable Kids SUP

The THURSO SURF Prodigy is one of this year’s best paddle boards for kids, and we love the overall design and great package of accessories that’s included.

When it comes to youth SUP boards, the Prodigy ticks all of the boxes. It’s super cool-looking, built like a tank, and includes everything a child needs to start paddling (aside from a PFD). This board has a versatile, all-around design that is stable and fun to paddle, and it’s extremely affordable to boot. Being an inflatable SUP, it’s also a safer option than a hard SUP as it provides just enough “give” to prevent injury if a child falls on it.

As far as downsides go, we’re a bit disappointed that the board is currently only available in blue. While the blue color does look absolutely amazing, it’s not a great option for girls — we’d really love to see an alternative pink or purple version offered in the future.

Secondly, don’t expect the Prodigy to be the fastest board on the water — because it isn’t. This board was designed for maximum fun, not maximum speed. If that’s what you’re looking for, you’ll absolutely love the THURSO Prodigy.

Overall, this board is a fantastic option for young paddlers and we highly recommend it for parents who are looking for an affordable, durable, and super fun junior paddle board. When it comes to inflatable paddle boards for children, the THURSO Prodigy is definitely leading the pack in looks, value, and price.

    • Hi Yanick, I haven’t personally tested the board out in those conditions but I think it would probably be okay (although not ideal) in small surf.
